As a woman, shaving is one of the most annoying parts of my personal grooming routine. On average, I have always had to shave at least twice a week — if I go longer than 4 or 5 days in between shaving, I start to look like a yeti. Not fun. That’s why I was so excited to take the Remington i-Light Pro at home hair removal system on a home hair removal test drive.
The system uses Intense Pulse Light (IPL) to flash away unwanted hair with controlled pulse technology. This is an almost painless way for both girls and guys to remove unwanted hair from
remove unwanted hair anywhere on the body below the neck. Use it on your underarms, chest, stomach, arms, legs, bikini line and even toes! This system is NOT designed to be used anywhere near the eyes, face, head, neck or ears.
The i-Light Pro system does work best for those who have medium to darker hair colors and should not be used on dark skin or over tattoos. The system does have a built in skin tone sensor that will help to determine whether or not you can use the device with your skin tone.
Did the Remington i-Light Pro work for me?
I have used the Remington i-Light Pro 3 times now and have been very pleased with the results. I decided to just stick to my legs after the first treatment so that my cartridge would last for the whole test drive. The instructions say to use the system every two weeks for your first three treatments then to use as needed.
I have seen a remarkable difference in the amount of hair that grows back after completing the test drive. If you look at my photo below, the left side is before my first treatment and was taken 2 days after shaving with a razor. The right photo is after my third i-Light Pro treatment and again taken 2 days after shaving with a razor.
While I do still need to shave, it is less frequent — I’m mostly shaving the hair that I’ve missed with the i-Light Pro and the hair that I haven’t caught in the growth cycle yet.
Clinical testing showed that on average the participants had 47.8% fewer hairs six months after three treatments — this is similar to professional hair removal system results.
The only downside that I can see is the amount of time it takes to actually use the system. After the first time though, it does get easier and you do get into a rhythm that helps you move along faster (about 25 – 35 minutes for my legs). I do end up shaving less though so it’s a good trade off and I think saves me time in the long run. Some people mention that the pulses pinch or feel like a snap of a rubber band on the skin. I didn’t find this to be the case at all as I didn’t feel any sensation with the machine set on medium. Everyone is different though :)
The i-Light Pro App
If you have a horrible memory like mine, be sure to check out the be sure to check out the i-LIGHT Pro App on iTunes or i-LIGHT Pro App Google Play. The app is very handy as it allows you to keep track of treatments, set reminders and alerts for cartridge replacement. The app includes how-to videos, FAQ and testimonials as well. Perhaps one of the most useful parts of the app for those thinking about making the purchase, is the skin tone chart. Check it out to see if the i-Light Pro is the home hair removal tool for you!
