It’s just about summertime and the temperatures sure have been showing it! The last week has been a sultry 85 – 90 degrees with no break coming in the near forecast. With my son out of school and my daughter only having a few days left, we are ready to relax! I love summer because it means trips to the lake, gardening, tank tops, flip flops and shorts. What I don’t love is constantly worrying about whether or not my legs and underarms are too hairy to skip shaving on any particular day! That’s why I am really looking forward using the Remington i-LIGHT Pro for an at home hair removal test drive campaign over the next 6 weeks.
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Remington. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and as a thank you for participating. All thoughts and opinions are genuine and 100% my own.
My normal hair removal preference is shaving with disposable razors and shaving gel (or hubby’s cream if I’m out). This isn’t super hard but it can be inconvenient when I have to make sure I have razors and gel on hand at all times, the time to sit down and shave and then deal with the inevitable cuts that I always get around my knees and ankles form rushing. Not to mention, all of the ingrown and missed stray hairs that razor shaving leaves behind on my legs.
My underarm area is whole ‘nother story. Sometimes, I really feel like that area has some kind of weird chia-pet syndrome because I swear the hairs sprout right after I’ve finished shaving them! So annoying! After learning more about this Intense Pulse Light home hair removal system, I have high hopes for being hair free!
For professional hair removal results, the Remington i-LIGHT Pro seems like a good solution for people who need an at home hair removal system that works to eliminate and lessen the hair in the underarm, bikini, leg, chest, stomach and arm areas.

What is Intense Pulsed Light?
IPL works below skin’s surface to disable active hairs and prevent new ones from growing.
- Light energy is generated by a Xenon flash lamp and applied to skin by a handheld device.
- Light targets the pigment in hair follicles, gently heating and disrupting the growth cycle.
- Unwanted rays are safely filtered out so that only light within the desired therapeutic range is allowed to pass through to protect the skin.
- Hair will begin to fall out within a few weeks of the initial treatment and results should improve over time.
Long Lasting*, Hassle-Free Hair Removal in Three Easy Steps:
- Prep: Shave the desired area to allow the most direct path to the hair follicle.
- Test: Use the Skin Tone Sensor to test skin in the desired area to ensure it’s not too dark for treatment.
- Flash: Treat the desired area according to directions – perform three treatments every two weeks initially and then only as needed.
I plan to use the i-LIGHT Pro for at home hair removal on my legs and underarm area. These two areas take the most time to get hair free and are the ones I am always most concerned about during the warmer months. I used the i-LIGHT Pro for the first time today, it was fairly simple to use.
While the instructions say to shave then immediately use the i-LIGHT, I shaved the day before yesterday in prep, then got sidetracked as us moms have a tendency to do! So, I didn’t need to shave again so soon. I had no problem with the tiny bit of stubble that I have from regrowth — I assume as long as you’re not sporting a winter’s worth of fuzz, you’ll be fine to shave a day or two ahead of time.
The i-LIGHT Pro comes with an informational dvd, cleaning cloth one light cartridge and an easy to read instructional booklet. I plugged the unit in and tested it using the sensor. It immediately went to the green light, telling me that my skin / hair combo is able to use the at home hair removal device.
At first, I had a bit of trouble trying to position my hand correctly so that I could easily press the button. I wish the button was a tiny bit more pronounced so I could find it easier without having to look or crane my neck. The device will not work unless the two sensors on either side of the light cartridge are touching the skin, which is great because the light is quite bright.
It took me about 35 minutes or so to do both legs from the thigh down and both underarms. Here is a quick video of the i-LIGHT Pro in action (please note that the fan isn’t that loud, I had the camera sitting right next to the base plus our air conditioner is running in the same room. The fan is a soft background noise and not at all unpleasant). Since this was the first time I tried the device, I was getting used to placement of my finger and of the device but I quickly caught on. I did have a tiny bit of trouble on the area around my ankle where my leg is thinner and turning the device sideways helped to completely touch the skin with both sensors.
I took before photos of my legs and my underarms before shaving and will post those with my follow up post in July. Some people say that there is a sensation like the snap of a rubber band. I used the i-LIGHT Pro on setting 3 and didn’t feel any pain whatsoever. I may bump it up to 4 or 5 on my next session, just to see if there’s a difference. I will use the Remington i-LIGHT Pro again in two weeks and then two weeks after that before I check in with you to tell you about my progress. I am so hoping this will help cut back on how often I need to shave!

* Individual results will vary. In clinical testing, on average, participants had 47.8% fewer hairs six months after just three treatments, similar to results observed from professional hair removal systems. Flash rate is approximately every two seconds; the fastest among FDA cleared over-the-counter IPL devices.
I’ve heard of this, but that is way too expensive for me. When I can get a pack of razors for a few bucks, I think I’ll stick with that until the price of this comes down by a lot :)
I am on the fence about the cost for now myself. If it works as it says it will though, then I think it’s worth it because I HATE shaving all the time!
What a cool product. I haven’t heard of it until now, but no shavers or shaving cream? YES, please! I’m laughing that you’re going to post your before and after shaving pics, and I’m so coming back to (nicely) make fun of you for doing it too. That’s dedication. :)
Still, it will be nice to see how it works long term. Thanks for the cool info. and the post. You sold me at ‘didn’t feel a thing!’ If it works and doesn’t hurt, why not??
haha! I was a bit hesitant to do it but I am hoping that the results will be good so it will be worth it to show any change!
I use this and it’s great. Kinda on expensive side but well worth the money.
Kinda on expensive side but I love it – works great.
This sounds like a fantastic product, I look forward to your follow up post to see your full review. Thanks for highlighting this product one I think I will certainly invest in if the results are great
Well, I have to say I can’t wait to see the results.
Ugh shaving stinks so much in the summer. That’s why I like winter lol. Can’t wait to see how this works for you!
Karmin makes the best in my opinion
