The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story – Book Review

Books are such an important part of our lives. I love to read and try to encourage both of my children to read as much as they can. They both have a large collection of books on their shelves and seeing them sit down and get immersed in a book brings a smile to my face. We have a small collection of holiday books that we set out under the tree each year. When asked to review The Snowman’s Song I was happy to be able to add this sweet book to our pile!

Book Description:

The Snowman’s Song: A Christmas Story was written by teacher, educational editor and author of six children,’s books, Marilee Joy Mayfield and Illustrated by artist Tracy La Rue Hohn. In 2008 the book received the prestigious Mom’s Choice Gold Award for Holiday books!

My View:
I was very surprised at how thick this book is, I expected it to be more of a picture book. Instead it is a 44-page story of a child snowman. The illustrations are sweet and whimsical, the words are in a sing-song style with a touching message about believing in your dreams and making them come true.

After opening the package I read the book then set it on the table for my daughter to look over when she came home from school. Being 9 I wasn’t sure if she would take to it or not. When Pie came home she noticed it immediately and asked if it was for her, when I said yes she sat down and started reading the book out loud. She read the whole book right through! She really got into the little snowman’s plight and I could hear the emotion in her small voice as she read aloud to me.

I am so happy to have had the chance to share this with her! We just listened to the audio CD included and I must say it was a relaxing and beautiful story to hear read by the author with peaceful background music. I highly recommend this storybook as a gift that can last throughout the years! It would be wonderful for children young and old, even adults who still have that childlike wonder in their eyes :)
