Do you know who Mat Kearney is? I had no idea who he was until my Jazzercise instructor mentioned the song we were rockin’ out to was by him. “Hey Mama” is such a fun song with a great beat so when I had the opportunity to review Mat Kearney’s “Young Love“ album, released in early August, I took it! I wasn’t sure if I would like the rest of the album, you never know if all of the songs will have the same feel as an artist’s popular single does. While it isn’t something I expected to like all that much, I have to say that I’ve listened to the CD several times now.
The music seems to mostly stay within the same mellow tempo to me and it’s nice to listen to it straight through without any crazy change in the style or beat. And the beat is just the right kind to get your body moving, even if it is just your toe tapping along under the edge of your desk. I think it makes a great background noise for blogging ;). “Hey Mama” remains my favorite Mat Kearney song so far, but I do really enjoy a few others on the album, especially “Learning to Love Again”. The songs do make me wish I knew all the words so I could sing along! I’m sure I’ll pick them up before too long though. What’s your favorite Mat Kearney song?

“Young Love” is actually Mat’s fourth studio album – “Bullet”, “Nothing Left to Lose” and “City of Black & White”, plus a live album, “Live at the Fillmore.”
Having been a fan since “Bullet”, I would say that “Young Love” is his best offering to date. I had the opportunity to see him at the Cleveland House of Blues on Sept. 25, and his first headlining tour definitely does not disappoint. Only wish he would have played some more old-school stuff for the long-time fans.
