Show Off:
How to Do Absolutely Everything. One Step at a Time. Written by Sarah Hines Stephens, Illustrated by Bethany Mann
This hefty paperback has over 1,500 illustrations and 224 completely bust-the-boredom activities, crafts, experiments and so much good old fashioned fun that your kids are bound to leave you alone for a few hours! In fact, you’ll probably find yourself wanting to join in once they start laughing and talking about how to do something they found in the book.
From Press Release: “The source for learning how to do absolutely everything. With minimal text and maximal humor, these simple illustrated instructions will have kids psyched to:
— Investigate (science projects anyone can do)
— Create (arts, crafts, and personal style)
— Explore (adventures in the great outdoors)
— Cook (recipes for tasty — and terrifying — treats)
— Move (sports, games, and playground acrobatics)
— Amaze (tricks, pranks, and awesome acts). How many cool things can YOU do? The answer will amaze you — and the secrets are all in this witty and nearly wordless book.“
Pie & Mr.T. have been taking turns reading SHOW OFF. I always love finding books that bridge the 5 year gap between my kids and help them find common ground. This book definitely does that. With things like building a bat house, making fake mummy organs, whipping up a batch of soft pretzels, launching a rocket, making seed paper and spotting pictures in the moon every one’s going to find something to banish boredom with. More than likely they’ll have a good time doing these things together too! Pie’s already made herself a fake tattoo, created and played with her own lava lamp and painted one of a kind nails. Next on her to-try list is making a flip book, molding a bouncy ball and tie-dying t-shirts. Mr.T. is thinking about trying out the silhouette portraits, he wants to do one of each of us! Cool!
We love LOVE love that SHOW OFF isn’t a boring paragraph after paragraph instruction manual. Instead it makes learning fun by showing each and every step as a picture. There are very few words, the illustrations are detailed, beautifully colored and very easy to follow along with.
The back of the book has a section called “Tell me More” that explains some of the activities in further detail, really neat! I love the mixture of educational, crafty & just plain silly ideas. My family has been enjoying this book so much, it has a whole summer’s worth of things to do! Most of them need no special equipment or expensive ingredients, just time and a little imagination!

Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any tips for rookie blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.
