Some of Pie’s favorite games involve singing and dancing so we were pretty excited to have the chance to review Kidz Bop and D3Publisher’s newest dance game for the Wii, Kidz Bop Dance Party! The Video Game. With the game’s easy to learn dance moves and game play style you’ll be able to learn fun dance moves in your own living room, while the multiple game play mode, character creation and customization will extend the party for hours. The video game is rated E for everyone and geared toward 5 – 12 year old tweens.

1985, All Star (dance mix), Axel F., Chicken Noodle Soup, Circus, Crazy In Love, Disturbia, Don’t Stop the Music, Evacuate the DanceFloor, Fire Burning, Get The Party Started, Girlfriend, Hey ya!, Hot N Cold, Ice Cream & Guacamole, Kidz Bop Shuffle, Let It Rock, Live Your Life, Paparazzi, Party In The USA, Say Hey (I Love You), Since U Been Gone, Take You There, and Thriller.
Unlike other Dance games we’ve played Kidz Bop Dance Party! The video game has a few unique features that keep Pie interested. Players can choose from five modes of game play – Challenge, Free play, Versus, Dress Up, and Kidz Bop Shop. A favorite at our house is Challenge mode where you play by yourself or with a friend to earn Kidz Bop Shop points. With the points you can visit the game’s Kidz Bop Shop to customize your character’s clothes, hair, shoes, and accessories. Pie’s goal is to have one of everything! She also like to change her character’s outfit to match the song she’s dancing to, there’s a quick link option to do that before starting each song. She also really liked that you can have your friend be on your team instead of always having to compete. I love this too as sometimes you just want to have fun without worrying about who has the highest score (although the game does have that option as well).
All of the song lyrics have been made kid friendly so a work here or there may be changed slightly so it’s safe for even the littlest ones to sing along to. Moms of kids who get frustrated way to easy over “just a game” might be happy to hear that this one has no penalty for errors or missteps. I know my daughter was happy to have encouragement instead of negative bleeps or buzzes when she missed a move.
That doesn’t mean it isn’t challenging though! Even Pie’s two older cousins (13 & 14) had a blast playing! The 14 year old liked it so much she took it home to play for a few days. The only thing I can say that I wish the game had was the ability to see both player’s characters when there are two players. I think that would have really added a little something extra to the multi-player mode. The website does have a mysterious area that says “Game Codes” and tells you to keep checking back for codes to “take your game to the next level” so we’re wondering what that could mean?
We still think Kidz Bop Dance Party! The video game is a great choice for families that like to have fun together though! The dance moves are fun to learn and it’s not hard to get into the music, really you can’ help wanting to sing and dance along with the kids, and they’ll get a few giggles out of it anyway :) Kidz Bop Dance Party! would also make a great gift for tweens on your holiday shopping list. Plus, if you do stuff one in your child’s stocking, you’ll be able to spend Christmas vacation dancing off all those cookies and candies!

So far, it seems like the favorite game on the Wii for my kid is either Paper Mario (the older game) or Mario Kart. I’m not quite sure on the why for either of them, though. Paper Mario requires a lot of reading and she’s not that good at it. Mario Kart is a little more understandable – you get to drive around a virtual track and she does reasonably well on that game.

They love Lego Star wars, I’m not sure why, but they play it for hours.
