I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love to snack! I can’t help it, I just need to munch throughout the day. On my journey to better health I need to either quit snacking all together or at least, start accounting for what I’m snacking on. A great way to get started is by measuring portions. So many times throughout the day, I’ll just grab a handful of animal crackers or trail mix without a thought to serving size. If you actually look at the serving size on a bag of trail mix, it’s closer to 1 ounce rather than a huge handful!
I’ve never paid attention to snack serving sizes much before but now it’s time to start! The easier I make it on myself, the more likely I’ll stick to it so I’ve started using the Eat Smart Precision Pro digital kitchen scale. This cute little food scale comes in several colors to match your kitchen. It also comes with a Calorie Counting guidebook that I find really useful.
In the book you can learn how to count calories using the Calorie-Factor guides. These are calculated using USDA data and represent the amount of calories in each gram of food. Basically, you multiply the weight of the food you’re going to eat by the Calorie-Factors in the guide. It’s very easy to do and a great way to keep track of your calories.
I love the Tare feature, which is a must have. I can place my serving dish onto the digital scale then press the Tare button to bring the weight back to zero before adding my food to be weighed. It’s also very nice that I can choose to weigh my foods by pounds, kilograms, ounces or grams. The scale will hold up to eleven pounds!
Also, I like that the scale is extremely lightweight and has an attractive, slim design that is super easy to store and move to wherever I need to use it. The weighing platform is a good size at 5 1/4″ in diameter, it will accommodate a variety of dish and food sizes. All in all, I think the Precision Pro is a great tool to have in my kitchen!
