Give them the gift of fun and creativity with the Morphology board game!

morphology logoBeing a collector of board games, I am always on the look out for new and exciting ways for our family to play them together. The newest addition to our game closet is the Morphology guessing game. Creator, Kate Ryan Reiling, came up with the idea for Morphology while stranded in a snowstorm with two friends.  She spent several years perfecting her idea with the game finally launching in 2009. Since then, Morpholgy has received quite a bit of recognition, including TIME Magazine #2 Toy of The Year, GAMES Magazine – a top six nominee for “New Party Game of the Year”,  and Readers’ Choice Award for Best Party Game — just to name a few.

If you love games like Pictionary, charades or similar games, then get ready to be blown away by Morphology’s creative new way to play these old classics.

Morphology is a fun and creative party board game where players are challenged to use their imagination to build a word in three dimensions as their teammates try to guess the word they are creating. As the game progresses, players are challenged to build the word with their eyes closed, using their non-dominant hand only, or using only a subset of the pieces provided. The results range from hilarious to brilliant.

morphology board gameWe broke Morphology out one weekend while my teen son’s girlfriend was visiting. Nothing like showing our true dorkiness right from the start! Since this is a team game, we split up three against two, so we could all play. The instructions are simple: Draw A card. Use the game pieces to create the word. If your team mates guess correctly in the allotted time, move your frog forward one lily pad. First one to the end, WINS!

Getting to the last lily pad is easier said than done. You must use a hodgepodge of unrelated items such as wooden sticks, glass beads, colored cubes and string to form your word. This takes creativity, a bit of luck and a certain amount of skill so that you can actually carry through the creation instead of laying on the ground laughing your rear end off because your old brain cannot fathom how to make a the word “oink” out popsicle sticks and colored cubes! As the saying goes, Getting there is half the fun though, so don’t give up!

What’s even better about the game play is that each number on the die adds a twist to the game; Roll a two? You’ll have to create with your eyes closed! A four? You can only use the string on this turn! The lily pads have a surprise too. Certain pads say “Pick 3”. Can you guess what that means?

Morphology is a fun game, so much fun in fact that we were all laughing so hard, that I forgot to take any pictures of our family playing it! Which is a shame because I dearly would have loved to share with you the moment when Super G. tried to make a porcupine out of an unwieldy black string that refuses to be shaped… yep, THAT was funny!

The game box says recommended for ages 13 and up, My daughter is 11 and she was able to play just fine. Each card has an easy word and a hard word, you can choose to do whichever one you want. I think my daughter actually played the game the best out of all of us! We also successfully played with an uneven amount of players! I definitely recommend adding Morphology to your family’s game nights. It would also make a great gift for kids and adults.

Currently, Morphology is donating one game to “There with Care” for every 10 likes that the Morphology Games Facebook page receives. Head over and check it out!
