I just tried the yummy new whole grain white rice by Uncle Ben’s and it was very good! I’m not surprised that I liked it, I love eating brown and wild rice, the kids and hubby however are a different story. They’d rather eat plain old white rice. Personally I don’t regular white rice has much flavor. I always have to doctor it up and add something to it to make it taste good.
I was going to add some herbs and seasonings to the Uncle Ben’s Whole Grain White rice but was so tired from the busy day we had that I just cooked it exactly like the box told me to and served along with peas, sauteed peppers, onions, mushrooms and Angus round steaks. I de-glazed the pan with 1/2 cup of water and served the drippings drizzled over top the steak and rice. I really enjoyed this new rice. I asked the kids and hubby what they thought and they liked it as well. Super G. said that it wasn’t hard like the brown rice I always try to make him eat and he really liked that it wasn’t mushy but was still soft. We both liked that the rice was large and fluffy. It has a very nice flavor too, kind of like white but way better, I didn’t even need to season it or add butter!
I plan on trying the other four varieties of the whole grain white rice too. It comes in the long grain variety we sampled as well as Taco, Chicken, Sweet Tomato and Broccoli Cheddar. It makes a tasty side dish that only takes 10 minutes to cook and has 45g of whole grains per serving! Have you tried it yet?
