Make a difference with the Johnson & Johnson Donate a Photo App #JNJ #SelflessSelfie + Giveaway

If you have a smartphone, there’s a really good chance that you have taken at least one “selfie”. Sharing photos of yourself with your friends and family online can be a fun form of self expression but what if you could change a life with all of those selfies? What if you could use your “Selfless Selfies” to make a real difference? The Donate a Photo App created by Johnson & Johnson in will help us do just that — help someone in need.

 donateaphoto-app

This post inspired by a campaign to help spread the word about the Johnson & Johnson Donate a Photo App via The Motherhood. Although I am being compensated for participation, I am excited about continuing to use the app to share my daily #SelflessSelfie and make a difference!

Download the Donate a Photo App!

The Donate a Photo App is available for both iOS and Android platforms in the GooglePlay and iTunes AppStore. Please, visit donateaphoto.com to find out how to download the free Donate a Photo app and register to get started. Once the App is downloaded, it is super easy to share a photo to help a cause. Just create an account then tap the “donate” button to upload your photo. Be sure to connect to Facebook and Twitter in your profile — when you share your uploaded photos on your social media accounts, it’s a great way to encourage our friends and followers to get involved in helping the causes we care about.

How does sharing a photo help? For every photo shared through Donate a Photo, Johnson & Johnson will donate one dollar to one of its non-profit partners*, you will be able to choose a cause from a rotating list. And, you can donate a photo once a day – every day — so your contribution can really add up over time! I love browsing through everyone’s photos and it’s nice being able to see how many people have donated a photo to each cause as well as how close we are to the goal.

Who does your photo help? Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation. The $1 that your photo represents will be used to do things such as get medicine for an infant, fix up a public park or send students to nursing school. Once a cause reaches its goal, a new cause takes its place so you will always have a list of worthwhile causes to choose to donate a photo to.

On July 28th, the Donate a Photo campaign added three non-profit partners to the rotating list of causes:

PFLAG: All funds donated through the DAP PFLAG cause go to provide materials (brochures, flyers etc.) for anti-bullying sessions. These sessions reach students, teachers and school leaders with messages about cultivating respect and keeping schools safe for all.

Girl Up: All funds donated through the DAP Girl Up cause help provide outreach efforts to girls, parents and community leaders, provide literacy, numeracy and livelihood training to out of school girls, and helps establish local PTAs to champion girls’ education in Liberia. These efforts help girls return to and stay in school, often after years of absence.

Safe Kids: The Safe Kids Safe Roads initiative aims to teach children and parents about bike helmet and car seat safety. The program achieves these goals both through in-school sessions, as well as through awareness efforts via online promotions and social media.

I don’t particularly like sharing selfies but I will do it to help my cause! Luckily, we can use photos of our kids and other meaningful images besides just selfies. I’ve been donating my photos to the “Restore a Public Park” cause. Our public park does so much good for our community and our families have so much fun and memories there that I feel strongly that public parks should be an important place for everyone to care for.
