It is fitting that the month of February is American Heart Month. Besides showing our loved ones how much we care for them on Valentine’s Day, We should also take a step back and look at how we are caring for our own hearts this month!
Since there is a family history of heart disease in both mine and my husband’s families, we know how important it is to keep our hearts healthy. The statistics are very scary, especially since we are getting to the age where more and more friends are facing heart health issues.

This means that we try to make good choices in the foods that we eat. Simple ways that we do this is by making sure we serve plenty of veggies and fruits for both snacks and meals. I always keep carrots, grapes and apples in the fridge, rinsed and ready to be enjoyed. Carrots are my top snack, they’re crunchy and sweet and I love eating a handful mid-afternoon to keep me going until dinner time.
We also substitute whole grain pastas and breads, like Pepperidge Farms 100% Whole Grain breads, for the white versions we have always eaten in the past.
