Help us name our new Silver Laced Wyandotte Rooster

After Mr. Puff died from old age I told myself that it would be a long long time before I felt ready to have another rooster in the coop. Telling myself something and actually doing it are two completely different things however. So when I was browsing Craigslist last week and saw a listing for a silver laced wyandotte rooster.

I clicked it.

I have always… always… wanted a Silver Laced Wyandotte rooster and hens! Luckily I was the first to email and was told the Roo was mine :) I wish I could have went with Super G. when he went to pick him up but I had a houseful of children over. Super G. told me the owners had a nice little flock of the Wyandottes. I would have loved to see the hens! Oh well, I am just so happy to have one of these beautiful birds of my own now! Of course, Pie likes him too!

At only four months old, our new Roo is quite large already. I can tell that he is going to be huge when he’s all grown up! After a day of checking each other out, a few pecks, and a couple of scratches I’m happy to say everyone is getting along fine. Twelve happy hens and a new young rooster make for a fun and thriving flock of backyard chickens!

We have one problem. After a week, our new rooster is still nameless. Is it weird that I’m agonizing over what to name our new pet? The two roosters we’ve had over the last eight years have had such creative and unusual names…

How can we top such imaginative titles as those? I don’t know but maybe you can help?

We need name suggestions, something manly yet cute. Not overly cute though. My daughter’s friend suggested Oreo but I just am not feeling it. What do you think? He is quite striking with his bright white feathers laced with black against his gorgeous bright red rose comb. I cannot wait to see what he looks like in a few months!

I love Foghorn but we’ve had one in the past and it seems no one likes to use the same name twice! Foghorn is one of the coolest chickens ever though! ;)

Wow, he’s a very pretty bird. As for a name … hmm. … he looks like a Harold or Harvey to me.

  3. 5

He should definitely be called Winston.

My 4 year old daughter gave these suggestions LOL
    *Woody

    *bug-a-boo

He looks like a ‘Phil’ to me :)

I would name him Clint, after Clint Eastwood, because he is so handsome. He is actually a beautiful bird.

I think I love you! Clint is an awesome name!!! I’m moving it to the top of the list and asking the family what they think tomorrow! We <3 Clint :)

Yeah, that red comb reminds me of Clint’s leathery face in his later years. Tough, but still handsome to me.

I like Archimedes. He was the owl from Disney’s Sword and the Stone.

Or Kevin (From Disney Pixar’ Up)

    Other thoughts:
    Poe
    Boss
Or The GoodFeather. (Play on the Godfather – got that from Animaniacs…)

Oh my! We’re going to have a tough time deciding! I like Poe! Thanks for all the suggestions!

I have lace wyndotts that were hatched May 1st~ they were supposed to be pullets but I have one that now has two longer fethers a the top of the tail. If it were a roo when would I start seeing more of the comb…… haven’t noticed that yet. They are beautiful birds! I have enjoyed getting to know them! I got 11 of the wyndotts and 11 golden commets…… I am thinking one of them is a roo too!!! lol Any thing you can tell me would be a big help. I went and bought on young roo already and was about to buy another… don’t think I’ll need them…..LOL
