Now that I’ve stepped into the world of the Panasonic Lumix G5, I am having a hard time putting it down. I am continuously amazed at how beautiful the shots from this camera can be. And, I know that in the hands of someone more capable than I, there would be some truly gorgeous works of art created with this camera.
Fortunately, I have the 14 Creative Control filters to help me out. They take ordinary to extraordinary, with very little effort. I’ve signed up for a camera class in January to learn how to use the Manual mode but I know that the filters will be a favorite, even after I learn how to successfully move out of auto.
I took a walk thorough the house and yard again, snapping photos as I went. This time though, I made a point to take note of which Creative Filters I was using for which photo. Also, I was keeping my eye out for objects that might become art when a touch of creative was added. I am loving quite a few of my shots and hope you do too!
Can a dog’s squeaky toy become art? I think so! With the Cross Process filter and the Impressive Art filter. This pink squeaky toy looks pretty cool!
I cannot wait until my entire tree is decorated to try out the Star Filter again. Doesn’t my angel ornament look lovely?
Those twinkles are just so pretty!
The Expressive filter brings my crocheted and quilted blankets to life. I love how the ties on the blanket in front, made by my Mama, pop right out!
The colors stay true to life but become more vibrant and lively
This next one is a favorite filter.
An old stuffed Bunny from a long ago Easter basket begs to be cuddled when shot with the High Key filter. I like how this filter brightens and washes out without taking away from the details or sharpness.
As a complete opposite, the Low Key filter brings out the gorgeous colors and details in my granny square blanket and my daughters book.
I’m also learning how to use the different focus options and love how this one turned out!
I can’t help but smile every time I walk past “Disco Man.” My son made him back in 2008 for an art project and he is super cool in his endless “Stayin’ Alive” pose!
The Toy Filter gives him a pretty neat vignette effect.
I thought it somewhat appropriate to try out the Retro filter on a shelf full of my old childhood books. It certainly takes me back to the days of reading them to my puppy and dreaming of faraway lands!
Too bad some have been misplaced through the years but I do treasure the ones I have left!
The blue stones in our fish tank called out to be shot with the One Point Color filter.
Then I used the tracking focus to try and get a clear shot of our Angel Fish. It’s not quite what I was going for, but I still like it just the same.
I can’t get the hang of the Soft Focus filter. Maybe I’m just not trying with the right subject so I will keep practicing with this one!
I can see lots of potential, just have to get creative!
I adore vintage so the Sepia filter is another favorite. I cropped this shot out a photo I took of my overflowing hutch. I am in love with the way the Christmas tree lights reflection came out and the sharpness of the beads.
It could almost be frame-worthy. At least I think so!
Now, I have saved the best for last!
My daughter is always one of my favorite subjects and any photo I take of her makes my heart happy. But, holy smokes does the Dynamic Monochrome filter do something amazing to these shots I took of Pie outside by my favorite crooked apple tree. I’ve never been able to take a sharp black and white photo with any of my point and shoot cameras. I LOVE this filter!
I had to take a whole series and these are just two from that session. I cropped the second photo because I am in love with the way that curl of hair on her shoulder looks! What do you think?
When our kitty-cat Kiki joined us, I tried out the High Dynamic filter because I knew it would bring out all of the gorgeous shades of color in her fur and eyes. Oh how this photo makes me smile!
I wish I could have gotten my daughter’s face a bit more in focus but it is still beautiful, to me. A simple crop, in the second photo, makes Kiki look extra cute and cuddly!
And finally, this last photo was taken of the view we had at the hospital, after my granddaughter was born.
I have always wanted to try taking one of those photos that makes cars and buildings look tiny, the Miniature Effect filter is easy to do it with and so cool!
There is a definite improvement in my photos as I continue to learn which filter will work for the scenes I’m shooting. All of the photos in this post (minus the first one!) were taken with the new Panasonic Lumix G5. They are straight out of the camera with no touch ups. I did crop a couple to show some of the great detail!
I’m excited to keep going and trying new ways to use the Panasonic Lumix G5‘s Creative Control Filters in both my family photographs and in creating art out of my everyday life.
Next time, I’ll be handing the reins over to my daughter and letting her show you what she can do with these fun filters!
Wow – what a nice camera. I Love all the options, especially the Miniature Effect filter. I always see cool shots on different websites and I’ve wondered how they took such nice pictures. Now I know.
Wow this camera looks awesome.I really love the different shots you took, and yes love the curl. Great photos!!
These are all great, and you’re right the black and white is stunning. My favorite though is your daughter and cat, that picture is awesome x100!
Glad you’re having fun w/your new camera. :)
That’s one of my favorites as well, this particular filter just captures the colors of our kitty so well!
I am loving looking at all of the photos you are taking with this camera! Beautiful and yes I think it could be art!
Thanks Brandy! I am just loving experimenting with all of these filters! I have my eye on another lens already but that will have to wait until after Christmas!
It’s art to me, lovely!
I love how clear and sharp all of your pictures are!
Wow, thanks for the great review. My Canon G11 just died on me. Though I am more than happy with my Sony TX20 now, I still want to get my hands on this beautiful baby! Haven\’t had a Panasonic before though :)
Definitely art! Your photos are amazing!
wow you take some great photos
Love your shots. Just bought a G5 as a black Friday present to myself so I was looking for info and tutorials on what people have been doing with it. Your pictures were an inspiration!
