We’re a third of the way through summer vacation already! We haven’t been able to get many outdoor activities in since it’s been raining almost every day for two weeks! Ugh! That means lots of inside time and lots of movies, games and “Mom, I’m bored” moments. So, let’s bust out the party! We’re getting excited to watch the premiere of  Teen Beach Movie on the Disney Channel on Friday, July 19th at 8:00 PM ET/PT, it’s the perfect way to have a fun family movie night that everyone in the family can enjoy!

Teen Beach Movie Synopsis

“Teen Beach Movie,” part of the Disney Channel Original Movie franchise which introduced a generation to movie musicals, follows teen surfing sweethearts Brady and McKenzie, who together ride the last wave of summer, one that mysteriously takes them into a classic beach party movie, Wet Side Story.  There, it’s surfers versus bikers for control of the beach hangout…and everyone spontaneously breaks into song and dance.  Now, Brady and McKenzie must try to return to present day, but their lives may be changed forever when they inadvertently alter the movie’s romantic storyline — and the handsome leading man, surfer Tanner is falling for McKenzie while biker girl Lela is swooning for Brady.”

Disney Channel fans will be excited to see Ross Lynch (Austin & Ally’s) as Brady and Maia Mitchell (ABC Family’s The Foster and guest star of Disney’s Jessie) as McKenzie. Also making appearances in the film: Grace Phillips (The Nine Lives of Chloe King/Vampire Diaries), Garrett Clayton (guest star on Shake It Up and Days of Our lives) and many other faces you’ll recognize.

This feel good movie is geared towards kids ages 6-14 with it’s positive message about the importance of believing in yourself and following your true destiny. The soundtrack is full of Motown R&B, pop, rockabilly and surf-rock inspired songs that will appeal to those of all ages. The kiddos will be dancing and parents and grandparents toes will be tappin’ away to the beat. It’s sure to take some of us back to those old favorites like Grease, Beach Blanket Bingo and Gidget. We’ll also be treated to an amazing set full of awesome 50’s and 60’s retro hairstyles and vintage clothing.

Throw a Teen Beach Movie Party!

To get ready for this beachy blast from the past, we threw a mini Teen Beach party! It’s really easy to create a beach-themed family movie night with a Disney Channel Original Movie as the main event. Just grab some beachy recipes that are kid friendly and a few simple decorations and you’re all set to spend time laughing and partying!

We found a ton of ideas in the free Teen Beach Movie party kit. There were several beach-themed recipes that sounded delicious and lots of printable activity sheets and crafts for the kids to enjoy. For a movie time treat, we chose to bake up a Blue(berry) HAwaii Bread and mixed up a fresh stone fruit salad with cherries, peaches and plums. Decorations can include fun surfboard props or water toys, blow up beach balls, origami flowers (there’s a free printable for them) or even a surfboard shaped cake (you’ll find instruction in the party kit).

My boys are going to be all over this movie – I sense a repeat of Camp Rock a few summers ago.

The blueberry Hawaii bread looks delicious. I will definitely try out the recipe. I never associated Hawaii with blueberries. I always thought blueberries were grown only on the mainland, like in California. But I did an internet search for “Hawaii blueberries” and some people are growing them on Oahu. Who knew?

Oh this Blue(berry) Hawaii Bread sounds really good. I love how easy it is to make. We have a ton of blueberries left over from our garden this summer. This is a perfect way to use some. I can also makes a few loafs for gifts. Thanks!
