Last Thursday evening I raced in record time to her house which is about 25 minutes away. We made it in time to browse the vendors for an hour before the show started at 7pm. There weren’t as many as last year, but the ones that we visited had some nice items and samples. One booth, The Commons at Franklin, was offering up mini bowls of Cream of Butternut Squash Soup – with mini spoons to match. Let me tell you that soup was sinful! It tasted like essence of autumn. With ingredients like heavy cream, brown sugar and thyme, how can it be wrong? They gave little recipe cards out so I will definitely be trying it out soon!
The local Electric co-op was giving out small Member Cookbooks. Just flipping through the pages I’ve seen some yummy sounding dishes like Pumpkin Cornbread and Crock Pot Triple Rich Chocolate Cake! Can’t wait to try those.
Everyone was given an nice tote bag filled with goodies including 2 Taste of Home magazine style cookbooks (over 190 recipes! woohoo!), a Rhodes brochure with 6 yummy recipes and coupons, A Taste of Home Hearty Stews & Casseroles cookbook, misc. recipe cards & coupons, Viva Paper Towel samples, Ziploc baggie samples, A nice Wine wheel to show what foods go with what wine, a neat thing called “The Oven Stick” that you use to pull out and push in your oven rack and a few other small items.
The show itself lasts about 2 hours but I don’t think we left until close to 10pm. They gave away so many prizes, Amanda and I were just admiring every one’s wins so much! We weren’t lucky enough to have our names called but still enjoyed it! They even give away the dishes that were cooked during the show along with the serving pieces used! We so wanted to win the Harlequin Cake for a late night snack!
Of course afterwards, we were STARVING! So off to Perkins we went – it was the only thing open. We waited in line so long, I think everyone from the show decided they were hungry too! I ended up finally making it home around 12:30! I drive very slowly in the dark and I was a bit shaken up when I had to pass by an ugly accident. I was thanking God the rest of the way home for that crowded Perkins restaurant! Thankfully from the news in the morning, there were no fatalities!
Still, I can’t wait until next year’s show! It was so worth the $10 ticket. Who doesn’t like a night out away from the kids and the hubby once in a while!
