Great Northern Beans and Ham in the slow cooker #recipe

- 1 lb dried great northern beans, rinsed and soaked overnight
- 2 cups ham pieces (leftover ham bone would be nice as well)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1½ Tbs dried parsley
- 1 Tbs onion powder
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ - ½ tsp Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- fresh ground black pepper to taste
- 1½ cups frozen leaf spinach
- Water to cover
- Drain soaked beans and rinse with cool water.
- Place beans and all remaining ingredients, except spinach, into a large crock pot.
- Place lid on crock pot and cook on high heat for 6 hours or until beans are tender.
- Gently stir in spinach and turn crock to low. Cook another 30 minutes to heat through.
- Serve hot with fresh cornbread for dipping!
You could replace the onion powder with diced sauteed onion if you wish
Could also add 1 cup chopped celery
Kielbasa could be substituted for the ham
