Hello! It’s so nice to “meet” you! My name is Henrietta and I’m the owner of the A Hen’s Nest Blog. If you are a PR rep and would like to learn how working with A Hen’s Nest can benefit your company or client, please see my PR Info & Contact Page. Thanks!
I started blogging in November of 2008 and to be honest I had no idea what the heck a blog was or what I was even doing!
Now? I absolutely love blogging and everything about it! There is always something new to learn and do! I also thought that I had fairly decent grammar until I started writing. Hello run on sentences and wrongful comma usage! That’s me over there <— I’m a pretty big dork…
And I like to sing. Out loud and badly… much to the utter horror delight of my children.
Here’s a very random video that shows my son and I playing along with a vlog hop. This pretty much sums up how we are in our everyday life… silly.
Other things I love, in no particular order; reading just about everything, baking yummy treats when the mood strikes me, gaming (currently obsessed with LOTRO) gardening, crochet, Jazzercise, playing with the kids, spoiling my dog Ginger Grant and raising our mixed breed flock of backyard chickens. My photography skills are lacking so please excuse all of my fuzzy pictures! I am striving to get better!
Super Genius (Wile E. Coyote? heehee) is my do-it-all, fix-it-all, know-it-all (mostly in a good way, don’t tell him I said that!) man. He works hard way too hard to support us as a General Contractor and is an awesome Dad to our children. Hubs loves hunting, archery, motorcycles, antiques, history, anything to do with the old west or past wars, gardening and building things.
He has a tough exterior but a soft fuzzy teddy bear lining… most of the time. Sometimes his sense of humor runs away with him (see that smirk? —>) and we have to reign him back in, but it’s all in fun.
Super G. is for-e-ver bringing home t.h.i.n.g.s. Motorcycles, vehicles, tractors, motors…. sigh. He IS good about not keeping most of these things though, he usually finds someone else who enjoys torturing his wife to pawn them off onto.
Super Genius and I have been together for 17 solid years. We have 2 gorgeous children together. I can’t believe how lucky we are to have them!
Mr.T. (otherwise known as The Teen) has a very artistic side and loves to draw all kinds of weirdly cool things. He’s always surprising me with the ideas that come out of his head! He loves movies & video games and “thinks” he wants to be in the graphic design field. T loves to create things with his hands, be it cardboard medieval armor or wooden shelves in the garage. He is very interested in history, wars, and has a great fascination with weapons, but not in a bad way!
He’s silly and dark, funny and sarcastic, definitely a teen! T also hates to be like everyone else and we try to encourage him to be his own individual. He speaks his mind and lets it be known when he doesn’t like something! Also, this boy seriously needs to stop growing because he’s about a half an inch taller than me now, BooHoo!!
Our tween Pie – double digits already eek – is growing too fast! She’s all girly girl and tomboy wrapped up together. Playing with Webkinz one minute and fighting her brother with a Star Wars light saber the next.
She’s slowly outgrowing her shyness and has definitely found a passion and talent for basketball. She made 9 baskets alone in her last game of her first season, you GO GIRL! Woot! Pie loves games, being crafty, books, horses, puppies, kitties, bunnies (okay all animals!), talking on the phone, the Disney Channel, school, her BFFs, helping her Daddy make things, 4-wheelers and all things outdoors.
Ginger Grant (the movie star) is our sweet pooch. She is around 9 years old. We rescued her when she was only a little thing and we couldn’t imagine our family without here. She is getting older and has been having trouble with her hips lately. My family calls Ginger my shadow, lol she follows me everywhere and is always underfoot. We named her Ginger Grant after the Gilligan’s Island character. Remember her?
As a family we love playing games of all sorts, watching the history channel, discovery channel, documentaries, funny sitcoms and some reality shows. We have a weird sense of humor and love to laugh at and with each other!
