DDP Yoga Review – It Ain’t Your Mama’s Yoga!

DDP YOGA Kit

Well, it may not be MY Mama’s yoga, but this mama is sure having fun with the DDP Yoga kit that I recently received for review! You may remember that I am taking my weight loss seriously and I’ve been tracking my workouts since late February. While they have been sporadic, April is turning out to be a good month and I’m really pleased with how I’ve been doing.

I do like to mix things up a bit though, the elliptical can become a tiny bit monotonous after a while and though I do love my shred DVD, I’ve missed being able to loosen up and stretch my body like I used to do in Jazzercise class. When DDP Yoga emailed asked if they could send over their program for review, I jumped on the chance. The program description interested me and when I went to the website to check it out, the success stories and videos there really spoke to me.

DDP YOGA is a unique, at home hybrid yoga workout system that stretches every muscle in the body, while at the same time, improving core strength, flexibility and mobility, as well as promoting significant weight loss.  But this program isn’t just another fitness tool; it’s an overall lifestyle change that encourages positive thinking, clean eating and a healthy body.

The program was designed by by former pro-wrestler Diamond Dallas Page after he suffered from a suffering from an injury that almost ended his career. After some skepticism about doing yoga to help his body heal, DDP realized how much yoga was helping his mind and body. He went on to develop an “all-in-one-workout” that is a hybrid between yoga, intense cardio, pilates and mixed martial arts. After using his new DDP Yoga system every day, he was able to get back in the ring, even when doctors said it would never be possible!

The DDP Yoga Combo Pack that I received came with 4 workout DVDs, a poster and a program guide. Yesterday morning, I popped the first DVD into my player, spread the poster out onto the floor in front of me for reference and proceeded to have an awesome workout!

Here is a quick look at the exercises included on the 4 DVDs (Red Hot Core is on all four DVDs, must be so you don’t have to switch them out if you want to do it along with another workout!):

Disc 1
  • Breathing
  • Diamond Dozen
  • Energy
  • Fat Burner
  • Red Hot Core
Disc 2
  • Below the Belt
  • Diamond Cutter
  • Red Hot Core
Disc 3
  • Wake Up
  • Stand up
  • Strength Builder
  • Red Hot Core
Disc 4
  • Mix tape
  • Double Black Diamond
  • Red hot Core
First Impressions

I started from the beginning and watched the Breathing segment. This short exercise was important for me because I tend to have very shallow breathing. This was a reminder on how to breathe deeply and it really helped me to focu on just that during the actual moves.

I also watched the Diamond Dozen, which is an overview of each move that makes up the DDP Yoga workout. DDP shows you how to do each move, either himself or with an assistant who has been part of the program. He also gives modifications for each move when available.

Then, since I was still feeling pretty good, I went ahead and started my first DDP Yoga workout — Energy. Energy “takes the Diamond Dozen positions and uses them in an energizing 20 minute workout that’s designed to wake up your whole body.” Since it was 7:30 am, Energy sounded like just what I needed!

I’m being taught Yoga by a Pro Wrestler!

Let me first say that I had no idea what to expect from a Yoga DVD led by a  WCW World Champion Professional Wrestler. To be honest, I was a tiny bit scared that it wouldn’t  be my cup of tea. Oh how wrong I was! Diamond Dallas Page is awesome! I have never done yoga like this before and DDP makes it so much fun! He definitely has a lot of energy and it gets me moving. I really enjoy the positions, they feel great and not only did I feel like my body got  a great stretch, but I was actually sweating by the end!

I really appreciate the fact that his two assistants are people who have truly used the program and not some fake looking models. I love that there is so much focus on using your own body weight — called dynamic resistance. This makes it possible to get an amazing workout with NO equipment which means there are NO excuses! DDP is very good at getting you charged up.  By the end of the workout, I felt great and had a smile on my face. When I woke up this morning, I was sore in several places! Woohoo!

Now, I was going to wait until I had a full week of DDP Yoga workouts under my belt, but I was so pleased with the first workout that I went ahead and wrote this up — I’m excited about utilizing the program and know that if I put my mind to it, I can have great success with the tools I’ve been given.

DDP YOGA Workbook

The Program Guide

I was pleasantly surprised by the information packed guide that came with the workout DVDs. There are different sections that are provided to help me with any questions I may have and great tools and resources to help me stay on track. There is a great introduction and a few inspirational stories at  the beginning of the program guide. Plus, these helpful sections:

DDP the Basics – Workouts – Additional Workouts

This section gives an explanation on how to use each of the included yoga workouts that are on the DVDs. It explains proper breathing technique, the importance of heart rate and everything else you need to know before getting started.

DDP Yoga 13-Week Workout Grid

This two page calendar gives you a pre-made workout schedule. You can choose from beginner, intermediate or advanced, depending on your level.

DDP Yoga Nutrition Guide

This section takes up the bulk of the program guide and includes separate sections to talk about Phase one, two and three of the recommended diet plan to see maximum benefits while on your DDP Yoga journey. I talks about what you should and should not be eating, cleaning out the pantry, eating habits and more. Several sections that I found helpful:

  • The real food list
  • Portion Sizes
  • DDP Yoga Meal plans for all three phases
  • DDP Yoga Maintenance
DDP Yoga Recipes

This section has 14 recipes to compliment the meal plan and tips in the nutrition guide. All of the recipes are super simple, yet delicious sounding and made with easy to find ingredients. I can’t wait to try the Organic Cauliflower and Mushroom Soup and the DDP Yoga Organic Power Juice!

DDP Yoga Food Journal

In this 13 week journal, you’ll be able to keep track of how and what you’re eating. this will help you see what’s working, and maybe even what’s not. Thereare spaces for each day of the week for 3 meals and 2 snacks each day.

Workout Journal & Progress journal

Last but not least, there is room to keep track of 13 weeks of workouts and space to keep your measurements for the entire year. I think this is a great motivational tool as you can check in with yourself each month to how you’re doing.

team DDP YOGA

One more thing I want to mention is Team DDP Yoga. I found this resource while I was browsing the website. This is basically a huge 20,000-members-strong support community where people who are using the program can keep in touch, share updates, get advice and more. I am again amazed by all of the before and after photos, stories and kindness that I found in the community! Definitely check it out!

How to get DDP Yoga and how to stay in touch!

There are three different DDP Yoga DVD sets are available for purchase and range in price from $69.95 – $119.95. You can see samples of all the workouts on the site and monthly payment options are available. To keep up with all of the news, find DDPYOGA on Facebook, follow @DDPYoga on Twitter and watch DDP Yoga videos on Diamond Dallas Page’s YouTube channel.

Super Inspiring!

I’ll just leave you with Arthur’s inspiring DDP Yoga success story. I actually cried the first time I watched this video!

  32. 34

I have been doing ddp yoga for a few weeks now and I love it. It was just the DVDs I got second hand . But I would really like to get a copy for my mother. She recently had a Doyle knee replacement and has been unable to get around at all the past month and is unable to exercise like she used to because she can barely walk. She has gained a significant amount of weight and I think ddp yoga is the perfect thing for her seeing as it has little impact on your joints. Also seeing the amazing transformation that art bureaus ale to make I am confident that my mother would benefit from the program.

I teach yoga, and I’d love to learn what is a bit different about DDP yoga. Exactly the adding of dynamic resistance, active breathing techniques and power movements. I might be a bit too much for me, as I teach gentle yoga, and yoga from the chair, but I’m very curious.

    Thanks! Gaileee

However it is advisable to look at additional circumstances together with price when selecting an agent.
There are virtual assistants who work tirelessly and well (with an extremely affordable
rate) performing all of your busywork, such as creating spreadsheets, making flyers, organizing paperwork and files,
prioritizing emails, and paying bills. Some realtors wish to take
additional classes or subjects so that they will be updated
and still have a benefit within the business.
