Getting Savvy with the Galaxy S III and Verizon! #VZWSM

Someone thinks I’m savvy! Shh, don’t tell them I’m not! I’ve been keeping this under wraps until it was official, now I’m ready to share — I am so excited to be a Verizon Wireless Midwest Savvy Mom! While I wasn’t able to attend the Verizon event in Chicago over the weekend, I did receive my surprise Verizon device on Friday. The Fed-ex man dropped my package off within minutes of the bloggers at the event receiving theirs! It was fun to follow along on Twitter (#VZWSM) as everyone else found out what device they would be receiving!

You see, they had been teasing us with clues for more than a week and I was dying to know what the device would be! The three clues were:

  • It has a sweet operating system!
  • Your future will be brighter and you will be seeing things like you never have before!
  • Your device’s AMOLED screen is Super!

Hmmmm! At first I thought it would be some kind of tablet but after looking through the Verizon Wireless devices online, I started thinking it just might be a Galaxy S III.

Opening my Verizon package!

I was right! It will be very interesting to see how my new Galaxy S III compares to my iphone. This will be the second smartphone that I’ve owned so I still consider myself a newbie when it comes using them to their full potential. It’s only been a few days and I am already so used to the HUGE screen on the Galaxy that my iphone screen looks tiny by comparison! It’s like going from a 27 inch projection screen to a 42 inch HD screen. I’m not sure I’ll be able to go back.

I LOVE the Galaxy S III screen! It’s bright and huge!

The screen is even brighter than this, I still have the protective cover it ships with on the screen until the screen protector and case I ordered arrive. I don’t want any scratches on her!

Instagram has taken on a whole new meaning since I can now actually SEE the beautiful photos that everyone is sharing. I also absolutely love having a phone that has such a great camera — with flash!

Another feature that I was interested in trying out was the S Voice. I’m still learning how to use it but basically you can communicate with your phone via voice to get directions, add events to your calender, send a text message, update your Twitter status, find out how big the Universe is (93 billion light years!) and a ton of other everyday tasks. Very, very cool. I have been having a little bit of trouble with it understanding me but I’m sure as I become more familiar with speaking clearly, and in the right direction, it will get better. My daughter has been having a blast with it!

I can’t get over how beautiful the AMOLED screen is! Service-wise, we live out in the boonies so I expect it to be spotty and it is. The service we have now is as well so I can’t complain. I can hook up to Wi-Fi to do many things. If I want to text or send a photo to Instagram, then I have to walk around to try to find a spot where I can pick up a network signal, usually in the backyard, sometimes by the front door. These are the times when I wish we lived closer to a big town! I have yet to find anyone with a service that works flawlessly in our area.

I know that I have barely even scratched the surface of what the Galaxy S III can do! I’ll be sharing everything I learn over the next several months. Hopefully I’ll soon be able to share more great features and tips with you, once I’m more familiar with the Android operating system.

Now, the big question is — What are your favorite apps? I need help finding some cool ones!
