Get to Know Your Kid – 100 questions to ask your child

My daughter is at the age where she likes to write down her thoughts, make up stories, and invent “secret bff clubs” with her friends. Sometimes I look at her and have the feeling that I just don’t know her as well as I used to. She’s growing up so quickly! there are so many questions I want to ask her to make sure I don’t lose track of who she is, and what she wants out of life.  Get To Know Your Kid, authored by Shana Connell Noyes, is a fun way to catch up to what your child is thinking about right now.

Get to Know Your Kid is a book of questions for pre-teen kids. Formulated with the guidance of two child psychologists, the questions are specifically designed to encourage young children to open up and share their thoughts, hopes, fears and dreams.

But Get to Know Your Kid is more than just a book of questions; it is also designed to become a memento. At the top of each page is a question and underneath is space to write your child’s answer. The book is beautifully illustrated and brought to you by Stewart, Tabori & Chang, an imprint of ABRAMS, the publishers of Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

I love the question and answer format of this book. With 100 different questions to ask your kid, there are so may things to learn! I know that my children often surprise me with the thoughts that come out  of their heads, and usually in a good way! This book can help them express opinions and use their creativity to answer a variety of questions. It is also a great tool for parents to use to connect with your kids, and it sure does give you something to talk with them about!

I was surprised {and a bit scared} to read that my daughter wants to have three children when she grows up, she even has names picked out: Angela, Ryan, and Lila… because she “likes them names”. *SOB!* Daddy needs to get a bigger gun! It’s wonderful also, to read that our teen son loves that our family might act a bit crazy and weird, but that it means he is comfortable being himself. Did I ever mention how much I <3 these kids!

Other fun questions to ask your kids include

  • Do you like your name? Is there a name you think would suit you better? What is your favorite name of all?
  • What was the best day of your life? Describe it to me.
  • If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world for free, where would it be? Who would you take with you?
  • Have you ever done anything really brave?

The sturdy hardcover and binding of this book should last for years so that when they are older we can look back and laugh, cry, and remember their thoughts and dreams as children. The color and illustrations are attractive and fun. Many pages have enough room to allow two children to answer each question, which is great for us since both my pre-teen (10) and teen (16) enjoy the book. It would make a very nice gift for little one sin your life! Also, I just noticed that you can peel the sticker {where the title is} off of the book’s cover and personalize the title with your child’s name! Awesome!

It’s so important to keep a relationship strong as our kids enter their teen years! My daughter is 13 & I try to talk to her all the time to keep that line of honest communication open!

The very best thing you can do with your kids is keep open communication – love the idea of 100 questions! You can have some really good family time with that….

I wish I would have had a book to give you like this when you where growing up. Your daughter so much like you at this age, and I wish I could have been able to talk to you like this and have you able to talk to me like you do with her. You did the same thing at this age closing down on me. But I’m thank-ful your grandmothers & aunts & cousins. This will keep her juices flowing to be able to write her feeling down, and it will also help to open up to you when she needs too. Hopefully she will write a book about things someday! love ya, mom

I love that it has a place for your kids to write their answers! I thought at first it was just questions to ask them…..like verbally. I love this idea!
