Search for Incredible People Contest

In case you didn’t notice I love chickens, which means I also love eggs! And why not! They’re versatile, nutritious, full of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, protein and a healthy low calorie way to start the day! Eggs are always a part of our “Breakfast for Dinner” nights. That’s why I’m so happy to share a great new contest with you that was recently announced by America’s egg farmers! Are you or someone you know incredible? Do you or your children have an incredible mind or body talent or skill that you’d like the world to see? America’s egg farmers want to know about it in the Search for Incredible People contest!

Each person who enters not only gains an entry for incredible prizes, but America’s egg farmers will also donate an egg to Feeding America for every video uploaded!

The winner of the Incredible Person Contest will:

  • Get a chance to appear in an incredible edible egg advertisement!
  • Receive a year’s supply of eggs (52 dozen!)
  • Select a local food bank to receive 10,000 eggs from America’s egg farmers
  • 5 random entries will win a hand held video camera!

Contest ends Feb. 19th 2010, please see contest rules for more info.

I also urge you to check out The Good Egg project. It’s easy to take the pledge to live a healthier life and to give back to your community in a variety of ways. For every pledge received the American Egg Board (AEB) will donate one egg to Feeding America – up to one million eggs!

I have chickens in my back yard.. nothing beats a fresh home-laid egg! Mmm mmm good!

In total, the U.S. produces about 75 billion eggs a year, about 10% of the world supply. (That's a lot of eggs… but only 10%!? Now I'm curious about where the other 90% comes from!)

We raise our own chickens for fresh eggs and we eat them everyday and sometimes more than once a day. One of my kids favorite egg recipe is "eggs in a nest". With a circular cookie cutter, press into a fresh piece of wheat bread (can use white too) and remove the center circle you just made. Butter a skillet and let bread toast a little. Then crack an egg and drop into hole cutout. Let the egg cook to a medium well with some runny yolk, but the rest of the egg fully cooked. You can then dress this however you like. One of my kids does salsa, one does country gravy and I do a little splash of hot sauce. So yummy!
